The party has begun at the studio today as we open our doors to our friends to come and check out a collection of Cindy's work from over the years. We're showing off a nice mix of new work alongside pieces from the 'archive.' Rediscovered works on paper are matted & ready for sale!

Fendi Recycles!
Inspiration strikes here in the studio today by IIaria Fendi - her new collection of handbags & accessories titled "Carmina Campus," are constructed completely out of recycled materials that would have otherwise been discarded by the fashion industry. Now that the frontier of repurposed materials has extended to luxury goods--could we see a marriage of all arts on this environmental effort?

Bounty
Sunk off the shores of North Carolina amidst hurricane "Sandy," the Bounty will be dearly missed. A beautiful example of craftsmanship has been lost. Before the hurricane hit our coast, I started working on a painting series that included the Bounty. Here are a couple of shots Rob Dmitrieff took when she was hauled out in Boothbay Harbor in Maine just before her last voyage. It is with great sadness that I report that one crew member has died & the captain is still missing - it could have been any one of us who spend our lives in part on the sea. Stay posted for the paintings that will be inspired by this wonderful ship...

Plastic Projects in the Studio!
The studio is covered in found plastic as Cindy works on her ongoing series of transforming found plastic into objects of art & social awareness. If you think this looks like a mess-just imagine the shorelines from which all this (and more) is collected. The destructive element of discarded plastic in nature is detrimental to every ecosystem. Team Go Sail USA: Amanda Clark & Sarah Lihan
It's been a very exciting time around the boatyard lately. On March 17th Hanff's Boatyard hosted a fundraiser for Team Go Sail, Amanda Clark and Sarah Lihan. They are representing the USA in the Women's 470 Sailboat Class at the Summer 2012 London Olympics this year! The event was a great success. We all managed to raise $38,000 for the team. There was a full dining menu by Chef Dan Mannix that consisted of contemporary american dishes like a Tapas Crostini Trio (Goat Cheese-Chive, Olive Tapenade, Tomato Basil) to a Beef Slider (Sirloin Beef, English Cheddar, Tomato Chutney). The gallery offered 20% of all sales to the team. And donations of any kind was happily accepted! We are all so proud of Amanda. She's our local Olympian!
Check out Erin Shultz's interview in the North Fork Patch!
Here are some images Estefany took the day of the event.
