First Street Gallery is pleased to present a small works invitational exhibition and fundraiser in support of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. Over a hundred regional and national artists have been invited to participate in the exhibition, along with First Street Gallery artists. The gallery will take no commission.

Reconnaissance in Maine!

Aaaah, so many pictures! Last weekend I was up in Maine doing reconnaissance on traditional boatyards like at Billings Diesel & Marine in Stonington and Benjamin River Marine in Brooklin. I  actually stayed there longer than I had previously anticipated because the weather was so gorgeous. Who knows when I'd be back! Funny story though, I was running out of supplies! With no where nearby to buy paint, I grew kind of frantic. Luckily, I met a younger painter studying in Maine and she sold me some of her paints and panels. She was so nice.

Look at the pretty pictures!!

Workshop in Massachusetts

Hey all!

Two weeks ago I was at one of two painting workshops Stuart Shils led in Provincetown, Massachusetts. It was a three day intensive of outdoor painting. Castle Hill hosted it. To anyone who loves to paint, I would thoroughly suggest heading over to their website and checking out all their programs. I had such a good time. Really, I recommend them.

After Labor Day

And it's September! The year is flying by so fast!

It's been a calm day in the boatyard. After Labor Day, everything seems to slows down and everyone gets a little bit more pacified. There were definitely more people on Facebook these last couple of days! Midnight doesn't known the change though, of course. The weather probably seems cooler to her, but otherwise she lies around as usual.

I also have a new little painting!

Yoga Bunnies!!

Hey all! Survived Hurricane Irene unscathed and taking the time out to touch base! I currently have an installation up at Temple Yoga  of my Yoga Bunnies! A project I started a while back, I'm so glad it's been revived by the local yoga center here in Greenport. It's nice to know that it is still loved.

Here's the event link: Yoga Bunnies @ Temple Yoga

Hope everyone enjoys the end of the summer!

Hot Summer Nights in the Boatyard

In my last post I briefly mentioned the poetry reading that went down this past Saturday, the 23rd. What a good time; such a great way to relax! Instead of performing inside of the studio like previously planned, we all decided to sit outside on the marine railway to listen to Tim Wood and Matt Daddona read because of the intense heat. It was quite an enjoyable evening.

These images were taken by Randee Post Daddona! Enjoy!

Sailing in Maine! Swish!

Just got back from a wonderful sailing trip in Maine. While there, I visited Nat Wilson's sail loft in East Boothbay. That was really fun. My sailing trip went from North East Harbor to Rockport. I was on my friend Bob Houget's boat Rejoice, which is a Morris 42. It's so nice to be back home, although this heat is murder!

Tonight I'm hosting a poetry reading in my studio gallery. Local artists Tim Wood and Matthew Daddonna are reading. It starts at 7pm. For more details, click over to the event page on Facebook.

Below is a random selection of images from my trip in Maine!

Happy Fourth of July!

Have you ever wondered what it's like out on a barge that was setting off fireworks?

I was fortunate enough to have been invited on board the barge anchored outside of the breakwater in Sag Harbor to photo document the event. I'm really happy with how the shots came out considering that my night photography skills are pretty amateurish.

The fireworks were in huge cylinders within an intricate fuse system connected by an electronic panel. They used a flare to ignite the sequence. Then... all hell breaks loose! The noise and vibrations were enormous on the barge. I had to shoot with special ear muffs and eye protection from behind a steel door! The embers were flying around like crazy!

What really struck me was the meticulous detail everyone paid attention to with safety and putting on a fabulous show.

We're working on putting together a slide show so stay tuned! We will try to post it really soon!

Fish Fry, Gallery Walk, Summer Has Begun!

The boatyard was really busy today hosting a Fish Fry fundraiser to benefit the American Legion Hall here in Greenport. There was a great turn out. The fish was really good too. It's such a great atmosphere.. lunch on the dock... very beautiful.

I was open last night for the Greenport Gallery Walk. There was a nice turn out for that as well. After all these weeks of cleaning, rearranging, heavy lifting, and painting, it's just so nice to be able to see the final product of such hard work and feel complete satisfaction in one's work and in one's self. My studio/gallery is up and running and I couldn't be happier!

But yes, it has been a very long weekend to say the least. Middie is a clear cut demonstration of what I'd like to be doing right now... napping!
